Aaron Jackson, 30, of Washington, D.C., was found guilty of first-degree murder while armed and carrying a dangerous weapon in the June 2021 stabbing death of Damohn Gill.
Jackson was sentenced to life for the brutal murder of Gill, 27, whose pregnant girlfriend was present at the scene of the crime.
The verdict was announced by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela A. Smith, of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), following a Superior Court trial.
According to the government’s evidence, Jackson and Gill hugged on the sidewalk outside the Orchard Park Apartments on June 24, 2021, before Gill was stabbed nine times in the back, face, arm, and abdomen.
Jackson then posted to Instagram to brag and sing about killing Gill just days after the murder, a move that is believed to have sealed his fate in the courtroom.
Assistant United States Attorneys Wes Faulkner and Marybeth Manfreda prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and Assistant United States Attorney Peter Roman.
Jackson is scheduled to be sentenced on August 9, 2024.
The case is a grim reminder of the danger and violence that plagues our city’s streets, and it is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement and prosecutors who worked to bring justice to the Gill family.
