Aaron Reed, 35, of Wilkinsburg, Pa., has been sentenced to 96 months in prison for his role in a cocaine trafficking conspiracy. The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak, who stated that the sentence was sufficient but not greater than necessary to achieve the goals of sentencing.

According to information presented to the court, Reed was involved in a conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. The investigation, which began in 2013, was a multi-agency effort that included the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other agencies. The investigation used wiretaps to intercept communications between Reed and his co-conspirators, who were discussing the shipment of cocaine from California to the Western District of Pennsylvania.

The wiretaps, which were in place from December 2013 to August 2014, revealed that Reed was conspiring with others to possess with intent to distribute and distribute cocaine. The cocaine was shipped to the Western District of Pennsylvania through the United States Postal Service or commercial carrier. The investigation was part of a larger effort to combat drug trafficking and violence in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh.

Assistant United States Attorney Tonya Sulia Goodman prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. United States Attorney David J. Hickton commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Greater Pittsburgh Safe Streets Task Force, and other agencies for their work on the investigation. The agencies involved in the investigation included the Wilkinsburg Police Department, Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, Munhall Police Department, Duquesne Police Department, Monroeville Police Department, Allegheny County Police Department, West Mifflin Police Department, Bellevue Police Department, and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.

The sentence imposed on Reed reflects the seriousness of the crime and the need to hold individuals accountable for their role in drug trafficking conspiracies. The investigation and prosecution of Reed demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combating drug trafficking and violence in the community.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Hickton praised the work of the agencies involved in the investigation, saying that their efforts led to the successful prosecution of Aaron Reed. The case is a reminder that drug trafficking conspiracies will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Reed will now serve 96 months in prison for his role in the conspiracy, a sentence that reflects the severity of the crime and the need to protect the community from the harm caused by drug trafficking.
