Abel Rodriguez-Moreno, Illegal Reentry, Pennsylvania 2024

HARRISBURG – A man from Mexico has been charged with illegal reentry after allegedly returning to the United States without permission.

Abel Rodriguez-Moreno, 43, of Chiapas, Mexico, was indicted on a charge of illegal reentry after a federal grand jury in the Middle District of Pennsylvania handed down an indictment.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the indictment alleges that Rodriguez-Moreno was previously removed from the United States on June 27, 2012, through Calexico, California, and it is alleged that he was subsequently found in the United States without having first obtained legal permission to reenter the country.

The indictment also alleges that on October 29, 2023, Rodriguez-Moreno was encountered in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and the Chambersburg Police Department. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark G. Monroe is prosecuting the case.

Abel Rodriguez-Moreno, the defendant, is facing a maximum penalty under federal law of two years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
