A federal jury has nailed Adam Douglas Sherwood, 43, of Wyandotte, Oklahoma, on charges tied to a sprawling methamphetamine conspiracy that pumped poison into struggling communities across northeastern Oklahoma for three years. Convicted Thursday, Sherwood now faces a mandatory reckoning after being found guilty of drug conspiracy, possession of meth with intent to distribute, and three counts of unlawful use of a communication facility.
The evidence laid bare a calculated operation. From January 2018 through January 2021, Sherwood and a network of coconspirators, including Kenneth Rosenburg, moved between 50 and 500 grams of methamphetamine, using cellphones to lock in deals and fuel addiction. Between May 13 and May 23, 2020, Sherwood used his phone on three separate occasions to facilitate drug transactions—digital breadcrumbs that federal prosecutors turned into proof at trial.
The house of cards collapsed in the early hours of May 23, 2020, after a shots-fired call prompted Tulsa Police to stop a suspicious vehicle. Inside: Sherwood in the passenger seat, beer in hand, and a loaded gun holster on the console. A search uncovered two firearms—a .380 ACP pistol and a .22 WMR revolver—stashed beneath the console, along with a green zippered pouch holding empty baggies, a digital scale, and containers smeared with drug residue.
On Sherwood’s person, officers found a plastic baggie containing a brownish crystalline substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. They also seized $226 in cash. Rosenberg, driving the car, had $1,300 on him. Both were hauled away in cuffs. The traffic stop didn’t just disrupt a deal—it unraveled a conspiracy.
Justice moved fast for one coconspirator. On October 25, 2021, Rosenburg pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison. Sherwood, however, took his chances at trial—and lost. He’s now set for sentencing on March 25, 2022, before U.S. District Judge Claire V. Eagan.
“A jury held Adam Sherwood accountable for conspiring to distribute and distributing methamphetamine,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. The case was investigated by a coalition of law enforcement agencies, including the Tulsa Police Department, ATF, DEA, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Miami Police Department. Prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Justin G. Bish and Thomas E. Duncombe.
