A disturbing trend of individuals possessing firearms while dealing in illicit substances continues to plague our community. Adam Lee Godwin, a 35-year-old man from Sheridan, Wyoming, has fallen victim to this trend. He was recently sentenced to 79 months of imprisonment for being an unlawful user of a controlled substance in possession of a firearm and for possessing with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Godwin was arrested on April 13, 2021, after agents from the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office went to a residence in Sheridan, Wyoming, to locate him and execute an outstanding state arrest warrant. While executing the warrant, officers recovered 2.1 ounces of methamphetamine and a firearm. This seizure highlights the dangers posed by individuals who choose to combine illicit substances with firearms.
Godwin pled guilty to the charges on December 15, 2021, and was subsequently sentenced by Federal District Court Judge Nancy D. Freudenthal on March 7, 2022.
