POCATELLO – In a shocking turn of events, Robin Dwain Dunn, a 69-year-old attorney from Rigby, was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking conspiracy in Eastern Idaho.
Court records reveal that from June 2022 to February 2023, Dunn agreed with clients and others to distribute controlled substances, including methamphetamine and fentanyl. In November 2022, Dunn went so far as to cause fentanyl to be distributed into a correctional facility, the Bonneville County Jail, to an inmate client.
The conspiracy involved Dunn and a client making two trips to the Salt Lake City area to pick up the illicit substances, which were then brought back to Idaho for distribution to others. Dunn admitted to abusing his position of trust as an attorney to further his own drug trafficking activities.
U.S. Attorney Hurwit weighed in on the case, stating, "This is a disturbing case in which an attorney endangered his community and jeopardized the integrity of the criminal justice system by distributing deadly drugs." He emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and holding everyone to the same standards, especially professionals who took an oath to uphold the law.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Frank Zebari and Christopher Atwood prosecuted the case, which was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF is a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies aimed at dismantling high-level drug traffickers and organized crime groups.
As part of his sentence, Dunn was also ordered to pay a $50,000 fine and serve three years of supervised release following his prison term. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of corruption and the importance of holding those in positions of trust accountable for their actions.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, Idaho Falls Police Department, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and Idaho State Police all played key roles in the investigation and prosecution of this case.
