Jason Wayne Persons, Methamphetamine Distribution, Iowa 2021

A methamphetamine dealer was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison after admitting to selling the highly addictive drug in Sioux City, Iowa.

Jason Wayne Persons, age 42, from Quimby, Iowa, received the 90-month prison term after pleading guilty to distribution of a controlled substance in federal court.

According to the investigation, Persons distributed methamphetamine in and around Sioux City in August 2020. On August 17, 2020, Sioux City police officers executed a search warrant on Persons’ residence, recovering methamphetamine in his bedroom.

In a police interview, Persons admitted to selling methamphetamine to support his addiction to the drug. The 42-year-old man was also convicted in federal court in 2003 of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.

Persons was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand. He must also serve a five-year term of supervised release after completing his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Persons is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ron Timmons and investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, a joint effort of law enforcement agencies from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Sioux City Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, and several others.
