Adan Cuevas-Arteaga, Cocaine Distribution, Delaware 2024

A Newark man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in a cocaine distribution ring in Delaware.

Adan Cuevas-Arteaga, 44, was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and illegal reentry into the United States after removal. U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Hall imposed the sentence.

According to court documents, Cuevas-Arteaga had been previously deported to Mexico on five separate occasions between 2007 and 2019. Most recently, he illegally returned to the United States and sold cocaine.

Search warrants executed on Cuevas-Arteaga’s residence and car recovered cocaine, digital scales, drug packaging material, $7,400 in cash, and two rounds of nine-millimeter ammunition.

U.S. Attorney Benjamin L. Wallace praised the efforts of his office and law enforcement partners in bringing Cuevas-Arteaga to justice. ‘The defendant demonstrated a blatant disregard for our nation’s laws by repeatedly entering the United States unlawfully, and, once here, profiting from the distribution of illegal narcotics,’ Wallace said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander P. Ibrahim prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the FBI’s Delaware Violent Crime and Safe Streets Task Force.

The case is a reminder of the FBI’s commitment to targeting drug dealers and those who have no legal right to be in the United States, said FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge Jimmy Paul.

The FBI will continue to work with its law enforcement partners to bring these offenders to justice and protect our communities from the adverse impact they have on public safety.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware and the FBI’s Delaware Violent Crime and Safe Streets Task Force investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander P. Ibrahim prosecuted the case.
