Ahdaejay Britton, 20, of Bel-Ridge, was sentenced to 130 months in prison for his role in a violent carjacking that took place in St. Louis in May 2023.
The crime occurred on May 8, 2023, when Britton and a juvenile accomplice watched a victim drive a Mazda 3 into a parking garage in the 3800 block of Lindell Boulevard. The two decided to steal the vehicle and waited for the victim to reach the bottom of a stairwell. Britton grabbed the victim from behind, threw him to the ground, and pointed a handgun in his face, demanding the victim’s keys, cell phone, and wallet. The juvenile then took the keys and drove the stolen car.
Police located the car in the 10000 block of New Halls Ferry Road, where the juvenile was in the driver’s seat. Britton was found nearby, and officers recovered the victim’s phone and a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol from the Mazda.
Britton pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking and one count of possession and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence in U.S. District Court in St. Louis.
The case was investigated by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the St. Louis County Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Martin prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
Project Safe Neighborhoods is a program that brings together law enforcement and community organizations to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer. The program is based on the following core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations that prevent violence, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
Ahdaejay Britton, the defendant, will serve 130 months in prison for his role in the violent carjacking. The exact date of the sentencing was not specified in the press release, but the crime occurred on May 8, 2023.
