James Stephen Ahearn, Jr., a 33-year-old man from Bradenton, has been sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in federal prison for coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity and receipt and possession of child sex abuse material (CSAM).
According to court documents, Ahearn used the Snapchat application to misrepresent himself as a 19-year-old male and coerced and enticed a 14-year-old victim to engage in sexual activity. This disturbing case highlights the dangers of online exploitation and the importance of vigilance in protecting our children.
Following the execution of search warrants, the FBI located similar sexually explicit messages with additional minor females in Ahearn’s cellphone. The FBI also located images of CSAM requested and received by Ahearn. This evidence demonstrates the severity of Ahearn’s crimes and the need for swift and decisive action to prevent further harm.
Ahearn pleaded guilty on May 5, 2025, to the charges of coercion and enticement of a minor and receipt and possession of CSAM. U.S. District Judge Mary S. Scriven handed down the sentence, which reflects the seriousness of Ahearn’s offenses.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigations and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Courtney Derry. The successful prosecution of this case is a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement officials and prosecutors who are committed to combating child exploitation.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
