MIAMI, FL – A Miami father and son are facing decades in prison after being indicted on federal charges of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and dealing firearms without a license. The pair allegedly peddled guns and fentanyl-laced drugs from their business and home, according to court documents unsealed Tuesday.
Ahmed Subni Wadi, 49, and his son, Ramzi Ahmed Wadi, 21, both of Miami, are accused of selling a firearm with an obliterated serial number and multiple grams of oxycodone in a November 2022 deal at a local mall. A bodyguard allegedly accompanied Ahmed Wadi, openly displaying a weapon and declaring his role as protection during the transaction. This wasn’t an isolated incident, officials say.
The indictment details a further alleged sale on April 7th, where Ahmed Wadi reportedly sold two semi-automatic firearms and fentanyl-laced oxycodone at the business where he and his son work. Wadi even allegedly offered to sell a machine gun and silencer. Later that month, Ramzi Wadi allegedly completed the deal, selling the machine gun, silencer, and more fentanyl-laced oxycodone, while reportedly carrying a firearm himself.
A June 6th raid of the defendants’ business and residence turned up a veritable armory – over 30 firearms – along with suspected cocaine, marijuana, and pill bottles containing suspected fentanyl-laced oxycodone. The scale of the operation suggests a well-established and brazen disregard for the law, according to sources close to the investigation. The ATF and FDLE collaborated on the investigation.
U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida announced the indictment, alongside ATF Special Agent in Charge Christopher A. Robinson and Interim Special Agent in Charge Eli Lawson of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stefan Diaz Espinosa is prosecuting the case, with Jorge Delgado handling any asset forfeiture proceedings.
If convicted on all charges, both Ahmed Wadi and Ramzi Wadi face up to 25 years in federal prison. This case is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. It’s important to remember that an indictment is simply an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
