AJ Bradshaw, Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, South Dakota 2018

AJ Bradshaw, a 31-year-old man from Lead, South Dakota, was handed a 96-month prison sentence for being in possession of a firearm despite being prohibited from doing so, U.S. Attorney Ronald A. Parsons, Jr. announced.

Bradshaw was sentenced by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on May 15, 2018, after pleading guilty to Count II of a federal indictment. The charge stems from a traffic stop conducted by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office on August 26, 2017.

During the stop, law enforcement found numerous firearms, 12,400 cash, methamphetamine, marijuana, and other drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle Bradshaw was operating. A search of his residence uncovered additional firearms, drugs, and drug paraphernalia, bringing the total number of seized firearms to 41.

Bradshaw was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. He was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Taskforce, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigations, Rapid City Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, and Butte County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. Attorney General Jeff Sessions reinvigorated PSN in 2017 to target violent criminals and direct U.S. Attorney’s Offices to work with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement and the local community to develop effective strategies to reduce violent crime.
