The Middle District of Alabama’s Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd A. Brown has been awarded the prestigious Attorney General’s Award for Fraud Prevention by the Justice Department, a testament to his relentless pursuit of white collar criminals.
U.S. Attorney George L. Beck Jr., presenting the award in Montgomery, commended Brown and his team for their crucial role in combating identity theft and tax fraud, noting that their efforts led to a significant drop in Montgomery’s ranking on the FTC’s list of identity theft complaints from second place in 2011 to number 16 in 2012.
Brown emphasized that the award was a collective achievement, highlighting the contributions of his office, the DOJ Tax Division, and especially law enforcement agencies like the IRS. “Victims of identity theft and tax fraud should be extremely pleased with the tireless efforts of the agents assigned to combat these crimes,” he said.
Joining Brown in receiving recognition were Assistant Chief Larry J. Wszalek and Trial Attorneys Michael C. Boteler, Charles M. Edgar Jr., Justin K. Gelfand, and Jason H. Poole, all from the DOJ’s Tax Division. Their combined efforts have made a significant impact on the fight against financial fraud in the region.
This victory over white collar crime serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against corruption and the importance of vigorous prosecution to protect taxpayer funds and the hard-earned livelihoods of citizens across Alabama.
