William Allen Patterson, Possession of Child Pornography, New Mexico 2016

ALBUQUERQUE – William Allen Patterson, a 34-year-old resident of Alamogordo, New Mexico, has pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of possessing child pornography. The court agreed to sentence him to 78 months behind bars followed by supervised release.

Patterson was arrested on August 10, 2016, after admitting his addiction to child pornography during the application process for a Border Patrol Agent position. His residence was searched and revealed a hard drive with over 10,000 images of child pornography.

Today, Patterson entered a guilty plea in Las Cruces, New Mexico, acknowledging that he downloaded numerous images and videos of child pornography from the internet on August 9, 2016. He remains in custody pending sentencing.

This investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Las Cruces Police Department. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative combating online child exploitation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa A. Ong is prosecuting this matter.

The New Mexico ICAC Task Force, which includes 82 federal, state, and local agencies, also played a role in apprehending Patterson. The public is encouraged to report any information regarding suspected child predators or abuse to law enforcement.
