Albuquerque Man Sentenced for Armed Robbery Lookout Role
Reyes Lujan, 27, of Albuquerque, was sentenced to 71 months in prison for violating the Hobbs Act by participating in the armed robbery of a Walmart store in Albuquerque on October 29, 2014.
Lujan acted as a lookout while two of his co-defendants stole a rolling safe from the store. The robbery occurred at the Walmart store located at 400 Eubank NE in Albuquerque. Lujan was dropped off outside the store and was not armed during the robbery.
Lujan pleaded guilty to Count 2 of the superseding indictment, which charged a violation of the Hobbs Act. According to the plea agreement, Lujan and his co-defendants jointly planned the robbery.
The indictment also charged Lujan’s six co-defendants with various counts related to the robbery, including conspiracy, robbery, and firearms charges.
The case was investigated by the Albuquerque office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Albuquerque Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Norman Cairns and Samuel A. Hurtado are prosecuting the case.
The case is being prosecuted as part of a federal anti-violence initiative that targets the worst of the worst offenders for federal prosecution.
Lujan will be on supervised release for three years following his incarceration. The case highlights the importance of working together to combat violent crime and hold perpetrators accountable.
