Alejandro Sosa-Cruz, a Mexican national, has been found guilty of unlawfully reentering the United States. This marks his eighth attempt to enter the country despite being removed seven times prior.

On February 1, 2019, Sosa-Cruz was stopped by a D’Iberville Police Officer for an obscured license plate. During the traffic stop, Sosa-Cruz admitted to being an illegal alien, and an ICE officer was called to the scene. He was later positively identified via a fingerprint scan.

Since 2012, Sosa-Cruz has been removed from the United States seven times. His most recent removal attempt was met with another arrest, and he has now been charged with unlawful reentry by an alien after removal.

Alejandro Sosa-Cruz faces a potential maximum penalty of 2 years in prison and a maximum $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden on August 1, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. Following the completion of any prison sentence, Sosa-Cruz will be removed from the United States again.

The Department of Homeland Security, Immigration & Customs Enforcement, Enforcement Removal Operations, the City of D’Iberville Police Department, the Harrison County Criminal Interdiction Task Force, and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department all played a role in Sosa-Cruz’s arrest and prosecution.

Assistant United States Attorney Stan Harris is the prosecutor for this case. U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst praised the cooperation exhibited by the various agencies involved in Sosa-Cruz’s case.
