Alexander Adams, Aggravated Assault of a Senior Citizen, Washington District of Columbia 2022

Washington D.C. resident Alexander Adams, 35, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for his role in the brutal assault of two senior citizens in Northwest D.C.

On February 23, 2022, Adams approached two senior citizens, then 78-year-old victim #1 and 79-year-old victim #2, outside a Giant grocery store in the 3700 block of Newark Street and demanded $5. When victim #1 gave him $1, Adams became enraged and began attacking both victims, striking victim #1 with his fist and beating victim #2 with a wooden cane about her head and body.

The attack left victim #2 with severe injuries, including a concussion, a brain bleed, swelling on the brain, an altered mental state, and cognitive deficits. The victim suffered from severe cognitive decline and will likely never recover from the brutal assault.

Adams was arrested on February 24, 2022, and has been in custody ever since. He pleaded guilty to the charges on December 4, 2023.

On April [insert date], 2024, Adams was sentenced to 96 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, by the Honorable Lynn Leibovitz of the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
