Gunrunner Alexander Michael Ryan Myers, 23, of Hagerstown, Maryland, has copped to his role in a firearms trafficking ring that flooded West Virginia with illegal weapons. The guilty plea, entered today in federal court, cuts through the noise of back-alley deals and straw purchases that propped up the scheme.
Myers pleaded guilty to one count of “Conspiracy” in the U.S. District Court in Martinsburg, West Virginia. He admitted to teaming up with others to legally buy guns, then funneling them to individuals barred from owning firearms under federal law. The operation ran hot between March and April 2021, with Berkeley County serving as a key transfer zone.
Each deal was a middle finger to federal law. Myers didn’t just hand off firearms — he helped arm people who, by law, should never have touched a trigger. The weapons moved fast, bought one day, transferred the next, slipping through cracks while law enforcement chased paper trails.
Now, the bill has come due. Myers faces up to five years behind bars and a fine of up to $250,000. But under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the final sentence depends on the full weight of his criminal past — if any exists — and the severity of the crimes laid bare in court.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher, with investigation led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Every shell casing, every receipt, every straw purchase was tracked, building a case that left Myers no room to run.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the hearing. As the gavel fell, another brick in the underground gun pipeline collapsed — but the flow, authorities warn, remains relentless.
