Willie Harris, III, a 48-year-old serial felon from Tallahassee, Florida, has been indicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The charge stems from an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. Harris appeared in federal court for his arraignment on the charge, which could land him a minimum of 15 years in prison if convicted.
The case against Harris is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime and transnational criminal organizations. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida is handling the prosecution, with Assistant United States Attorney Meredith L. Steer leading the case.
Harris’s jury trial is scheduled for July 20, 2026, at 8:30 am before United States District Court Judge Mark E. Walker in Tallahassee, Florida. If convicted, Harris will face a significant prison sentence, highlighting the seriousness with which federal authorities are treating gun crimes committed by felons.
The indictment against Harris is merely an allegation, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, the charge and potential sentence serve as a reminder of the severe consequences that can result from felons possessing firearms.
