Frederick Allen Smith Jr, a 54-year-old Madison, Florida resident, has been federally charged with armed meth trafficking and firearms offenses. The indictment, announced by US Attorney John P. Heekin, stems from a joint investigation by the DEA, ATF, and Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Smith Jr appeared in federal court and is scheduled for a jury trial on July 20, 2026.

The charges against Smith Jr include possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and 500 grams or more of a mixture containing methamphetamine, as well as possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

If convicted, Smith Jr faces a minimum of 10 years’ imprisonment and up to life imprisonment on the methamphetamine count, as well as additional consecutive sentences for the firearms offenses. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat transnational crime and protect communities.

Assistant US Attorney Emma Schwan is prosecuting the case, which will be heard by US District Court Judge Robert L. Hinkle. The indictment is merely an allegation, and Smith Jr is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
