Alexander Robert McManus, Child Pornography, North Dakota 2017

FARGO, North Dakota – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, 56-year-old Alexander Robert McManus of Jamestown, North Dakota, has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for his involvement in receiving and possessing child pornography.

The case against McManus began on November 3, 2017, when he pleaded guilty to one count of Receiving Materials Containing Child Pornography and two counts of Possession of Materials Containing Child Pornography. The charges were brought against McManus after a child reported that he had been sexually abusing her since a young age.

Law enforcement subsequently initiated an investigation, which led to the discovery of a cell phone containing child pornography hidden behind the refrigerator in McManus’ residence. Further searches of his home revealed additional media containing child pornography.

During a search of his residence, law enforcement officials recovered more evidence of child pornography, which McManus later admitted to receiving and possessing. Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Klemetsrud Puhl prosecuted the case.

This case was a collaborative effort between the Department of Homeland Security – Homeland Security Investigations, the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations, and the Jamestown Police Department.

McManus was also ordered to pay $300 to the Crime Victims’ Fund, as well as $2,500 in restitution to the victim.

As a result of his crimes, McManus will serve 22 years in federal prison, followed by lifetime supervised release. The harsh sentence serves as a reminder that the production, distribution, and possession of child pornography are serious crimes that have severe consequences.
