A Farmington man has been found guilty of his involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking operation in New Mexico.
Alexis Tarango, 22, of Farmington, N.M., pleaded guilty to a methamphetamine trafficking charge in federal court in Santa Fe, New Mexico, last week.
Tarango was arrested on July 13, 2017 on an indictment charging him with possession of more than 50 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute on January 30, 2016 in San Juan County, N.M.
On January 5, 2018, Tarango entered a guilty plea to the indictment without the benefit of a plea agreement.
At sentencing, Tarango faces a mandatory minimum penalty of five years and a maximum of 40 years in federal prison.
The case was investigated by the Farmington office of the FBI and the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Margaret M. Vierbuchen is prosecuting the case.
Tarango’s guilty plea marks a significant achievement in the ongoing effort to combat methamphetamine trafficking in New Mexico.
