Defendant Sentenced in Methamphetamine Conspiracy Case

Hattiesburg, MS – A federal court in Hattiesburg has sentenced a local man to 300 months in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy.

Alfredric James, 37, of Columbia, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine following a three-day trial in U.S. District Court.

According to court documents and trial testimony, James was involved in the distribution of over 8 kilograms of methamphetamine in the Hattiesburg area between the fall of 2020. He was also responsible for retrieving a pound of pure methamphetamine hidden in a barbecue grill at a residence in Hattiesburg on December 9, 2020.

James fled from law enforcement after being alerted to the transaction, but was apprehended with the methamphetamine after a short pursuit. He was subsequently charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

The case is the result of an extensive investigation, dubbed "Don’t Tell On Me Bro," which began as an operation targeting illegal drug trafficking in the Hattiesburg, Mississippi area. The investigation was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, which targets high-level drug traffickers and money launderers.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Hattiesburg Police Department, Forrest County Sheriff’s, and Columbia Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Keesha Middleton and Shundral Cole.

U.S. Attorney Darren LaMarca and Special Agent in Charge Brad Byerley of the Drug Enforcement Administration praised the efforts of the investigative team and the prosecutors who worked on the case.

James was sentenced on January 12, 2023, in U.S. District Court in Hattiesburg. He will serve 300 months in federal prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release.
