CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – On May 17, 2021, a brazen crime was committed that would lead to a lengthy prison sentence for the perpetrator. Allen Marcus Carrillo, a 28-year-old from Alice, Texas, was found asleep at the wheel of his running car, obstructing traffic on Highway 359.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a black magnetic box containing more than 90 grams of pure meth underneath Carrillo’s seat. This egregious act of meth trafficking would prove to be the defendant’s downfall.
Carrillo was taken into custody and subsequently pleaded guilty to the crime on May 2. Today, U.S. District Judge Drew B. Tipton ordered him to serve a 126-month sentence to be immediately followed by five years of supervised release.
What’s more, the court heard additional evidence detailing Carrillo’s efforts to acquire narcotics and other contraband while in custody for this offense by attempting to bribe a guard at the federal detention facility. In handing down the sentence, Judge Tipton noted Carrillo’s efforts to acquire contraband while in federal custody were ‘extraordinary’ and justified the lengthy sentence imposed.
The Drug Enforcement Administration conducted this investigation with the assistance of the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert D. Thorpe Jr. prosecuted the case.
Carrillo will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
