PHILADELPHIA – In a chilling sequence of violence, Rubiel Perez, 31, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today to 15 years in prison for his March 2023 armed robbery spree. United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Schmehl imposed the severe penalty.
Perez, who pleaded guilty in March to multiple counts of Hobbs Act robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime, had terrorized Lehigh County. His spree included three brazen attacks on 7-Eleven stores within a span of just 25 hours. The defendant’s actions were met with swift justice as he was charged by indictment in November 2023.
On March 28, 2023, Perez entered a Union Boulevard 7-Eleven in Allentown, pointing a handgun at an employee and making off with $937. The next night, his target shifted to South 4th Street, where he stole $150 after threatening a store worker.
But it was his third and most audacious act that sealed his fate. At a West Tilghman Street 7-Eleven in South Whitehall Township, Perez tried to rob the store at gunpoint. Three times in two days, Perez put lives at risk, pointing his firearm at innocent employees.
“Three times in two days, Rubiel Perez pointed his gun at store clerks and made them fear for their lives,” said U.S. Attorney David Metcalf. “We will not permit criminals to prey on our communities.”
Acting Special Agent in Charge Shannon Hamm of the ATF Philadelphia Field Division echoed the sentiment: “Stopping violent criminals like Perez is a primary ATF mission. He will no longer endanger this town, and we will continue to make Pennsylvania’s communities safer for all.”
