A career drug trafficker has been sentenced to 262 months in prison for distributing heroin and cocaine in the Richmond area, according to authorities.
A Henrico man, Alphonso Jones, 43, pleaded guilty on May 23, 2017, to distributing a combined total of more than 20 kilograms of heroin and cocaine in 2016. Jones admitted to being involved in the distribution of over 7 kilograms of heroin and 15 kilograms of cocaine, which converts to over 220,000 individual doses.
These quantities of heroin and cocaine are staggering, and the impact of Jones’ actions on the community cannot be overstated. The Richmond area has struggled with opioid and cocaine addiction for years, and cases like this highlight the need for ongoing efforts to combat the drug trade.
Jones also admitted to possessing a .38 caliber handgun and ammunition as a convicted felon. In addition to his prison sentence, Jones was ordered to forfeit the firearm, and a monetary judgment was entered in the amount of $1.05 million, which represented the proceeds of Jones’ drug trafficking activities.
The investigation into Jones’ activities was a collaborative effort between the Richmond Police Department, the Chesterfield County Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Washington Field Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Angela Mastandrea-Miller prosecuted the case.
Senior U.S. District Judge Robert E. Payne presided over the sentencing. The case, 3:17-cr-34, was heard in the Eastern District of Virginia.
