Shreveport man Alvin Kincerely Law Jr. has been sentenced to 37 months in prison for his involvement in the illegal possession of a firearm. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote on Tuesday, marking the culmination of a long-standing investigation.

According to court records, Law, 30, was driving a red pickup truck on June 26, 2017, when he was pulled over by a Shreveport Police officer. As the vehicle came to a stop, the officer observed a black object being tossed out of the driver’s side window. A subsequent search of the area revealed a Lorcin, Mira Loma, CA, USA, model: L380, .380 caliber pistol.

Law’s guilty plea, which was entered on January 25, 2018, revealed that he had a prior conviction for possession of marijuana, fourth offense in 2011. As a result, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer through collaboration between law enforcement and the community.

Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Aaron Crawford prosecuted the case, while the ATF and Shreveport Police Department conducted the investigation.

Law was also sentenced to three years of supervised release. The sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime and the need to hold accountable those who engage in illegal activity.

In a statement, Attorney General Jeff Sessions emphasized the importance of targeting violent criminals and reducing crime through effective, locally-based strategies.
