REYNALDO BRAN FONSECA, a 36-year-old Honduran national, has pleaded guilty to a three-count Indictment charging him with illegal reentry of a removed alien and possession of firearms by an illegal alien.
According to court documents, FONSECA reentered the United States after he was previously deported on November 5, 2010. This blatant disregard for the law is a serious offense, and FONSECA’s actions demonstrate a clear intent to flout the rules.
The Indictment also alleges that FONSECA illegally possessed a Colt .357 revolver on February 22, 2016, and a Glock semi-automatic pistol on April 7, 2016. FONSECA faces a maximum term of imprisonment of two years, a maximum fine of $250,000, a maximum term of supervised release of one year, and a mandatory $100 special assessment for the illegal re-entry charge. On the weapons possession charge, FONSECA faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten years, a maximum fine of $250,000, a maximum term of supervised release of three years, and a mandatory $100 special assessment.
U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon has set sentencing for July 20, 2017. Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security in investigating this matter, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Spiro G. Latsis is in charge of the prosecution.
