Washington – Jesse Green III, 41, of Germantown, Md., has been locked away for seven years following a brutal carjacking that sent a woman and her 2-year-old granddaughter to the hospital. The attack occurred in Southeast Washington, where Green drove off with his victims after an attempted abduction.
Green pled guilty in February 2017 to the charge of carjacking in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Sentencing was handed down by the Honorable Ronna L. Beck, who also imposed a three-year supervised release following his prison term.
The horror unfolded on Jan. 8, 2017, at around noon when Green approached a woman and her family’s GMC Yukon in Southeast Washington. After forcing himself into the driver’s seat, he sped off with the victims still inside the vehicle. The child was securely seated in a car seat.
During his reckless drive, Green ignored stop signs and caused multiple collisions, including a crash into a parked vehicle and a telephone pole, before attempting to flee. He was quickly apprehended by law enforcement.
U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips and Acting Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Peter Newsham commended the swift action of investigators who brought Green to justice. They also acknowledged the hard work of Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn Rakoczy, Paralegal Specialist Richard Cheatham, Victim/Witness Advocate James Brennan, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Natasha Smalky in investigating and prosecuting the case.
This sentence sends a strong message that violent crimes against innocent civilians will not be tolerated in our community. The families of the victims can now seek some measure of peace knowing justice has been served.
