Virginia Man Charged with Sex Trafficking a 15 Year Old

NORFOLK, Va. – A Virginia Beach man has been hit with serious charges of sex trafficking a minor, leaving authorities and the community in shock. Alvin Norlee Moore III, a 38-year-old resident of Virginia Beach, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of sex trafficking of a minor and use of the Internet to promote prostitution.

According to court documents, Moore met a 15-year-old girl in November 2015 and immediately started using her as a prostitute at various hotels in Virginia Beach, including the oceanfront area. He allegedly advertised her services on the website www.backpage.com. The victim was eventually able to return home to her family, who then notified the authorities.

The indictment also alleges that Moore had other women working for him as prostitutes in the Tidewater area for several years. Moore faces a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted. The maximum statutory sentence is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes, as the sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the court based on the advisory Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The case was investigated by the FBI and Virginia Beach Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth M. Yusi is prosecuting the case. This disturbing case highlights the need for increased awareness and vigilance in identifying and preventing human trafficking.
