Alyssa Avery Sentenced to Six Years in Federal Prison for Methamphetamine Trafficking
A 32-year-old Clay County woman has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for her role in a major methamphetamine trafficking operation.
Alyssa Avery, of Green Cove Springs, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Brian J. Davis for her crime, which involves the possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine base, and cocaine.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Avery entered a guilty plea on October 19, 2023, following her arrest in January of this year. Deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office were conducting a traffic stop on January 30, 2023, when they discovered Avery was driving a rental vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
During the stop, a CCSO canine alerted the detectives to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed over 20 grams of fentanyl in 17 individual sealed baggies, 60 grams of pure crystal methamphetamine, over 13 grams of cocaine, and over 16 grams of cocaine base. A digital scale was also recovered.
Avery’s arrest marked the latest development in an ongoing investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in Clay County. Avery had been released from the Florida Department of Corrections the month prior for trafficking methamphetamine.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Aakash Singh.
Avery will serve six years in federal prison for her crimes. Her sentence is a reminder of the serious consequences that come with involvement in methamphetamine trafficking.
