CINCINNATI – Terry Johnson, 43, of Hamilton Ohio, is behind bars after being sentenced in U.S. District Court to 24 months in prison for health care fraud and money laundering in a scheme to defraud Medicare and Medicaid.

A scheme that spanned seven years has finally come to an end for the owner of Community Angels Ambulance Service, LLC. Johnson, who also operated Starlite Transportation, fraudulently billed Medicare and Medicaid for ambulance and ambulette transports from at least 2007 through 2012.

According to court documents, Johnson’s companies bilked Medicare out of approximately $1.1 million and Medicaid for more than $354,000. Johnson was ordered to file amended personal and corporate income tax returns with the IRS for the 2008-2011 income tax years.

U.S. Attorney Benjamin C. Glassman commended the cooperative investigation by the IRS, Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, and the Ohio Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, as well as Assistant United States Attorney Timothy Mangan, who is representing the United States in this case.

Johnson’s sentencing is a result of a long and intricate investigation that brought together various law enforcement agencies. His companies’ actions not only cheated the system but also put the well-being of patients at risk.

Community Angels Ambulance Service, LLC was a medical transportation company that catered to dialysis patients. The company’s actions have left a stain on the medical community, and Johnson’s sentencing is a step towards holding accountable those who abuse the system.

Terry Johnson’s conviction and sentencing serve as a reminder that healthcare fraud will not be tolerated. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and bring you updates as more information becomes available.
