BUFFALO, N.Y. – A local woman has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for her role in a conspiracy to import Alpha-PVP, a highly addictive and potent synthetic opioid.
Judi Strong, 43, of Amherst, NY, was convicted of conspiracy to import Alpha-PVP, a Schedule I controlled substance, and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney George C. Burgasser, Strong conspired with a co-defendant to import Alpha-PVP into the United States from China in July 2015. The defendant ordered the substance online and had it shipped in two FedEx Express Mail packages to her residence in Amherst.
Federal law enforcement officers intercepted the packages and performed a controlled delivery to Strong at her residence, where she accepted delivery of the two packages. The two packages contained approximately 178 grams of Alpha-PVP.
The sentencing is the result of an investigation by Special Agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James C. Spero.
U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. announced the sentencing and praised the efforts of the federal law enforcement agents who worked on the case.
Strong’s conviction and sentencing serve as a warning to those who would seek to bring highly addictive and deadly substances into our communities, said Hochul.
