Amin Hasan, Unlawful Firearm Possession, Connecticut 2021

Amin Hasan, 44, of Stamford, has been charged with federal firearm offenses after a grand jury indictment was returned in New Haven.

The indictment, returned on March 29, 2021, charges Hasan with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm as a prohibited person.

According to the indictment, on December 6, 2020, Hasan possessed a loaded Glock 9mm pistol. It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

Hasan was previously convicted in state court of assault of public safety, emergency medical, public transport or health care personnel in May 2019. He is also alleged to have possessed the pistol while subject to a court order.

Hasan has been detained since his arrest on related state charges in December 2020. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert A. Richardson in Hartford and entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Stamford Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Doherty.

Acting U.S. Attorney Leonard C. Boyle stressed that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. Charges are only allegations, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
