James Johnson, Methamphetamine Possession, Louisiana 2022

Brent Guzzardo, a 34-year-old Amite resident, has been sentenced to 106 months in prison for narcotics and firearms violations.

The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Kenneth A. Polite, announced the sentence, which was handed down by U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt.

Guzzardo was found guilty of possession with the intent to distribute a quantity of methamphetamine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. These charges stem from a search warrant executed at his residence on March 25, 2015.

During the search, law enforcement officers located several grams of pure methamphetamine, a scale, cash, and a loaded .357 revolver. Guzzardo, 34, was also ordered to pay a special assessment of $200 and will serve three years of supervised release after his prison term.

The Drug Enforcement Administration and officers of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office were praised by U.S. Attorney Polite for their work in investigating this matter. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Haller was in charge of the prosecution.

The evidence against Guzzardo highlighted the dangers of methamphetamine and the need for law enforcement agencies to work together to combat narcotics trafficking. This case serves as a reminder that those who engage in such activities will face severe consequences.

The sentence handed down in this case is a significant blow to those who would seek to distribute and possess narcotics in our community. We will continue to work tirelessly to keep our streets safe and our neighborhoods free from the scourge of narcotics trafficking.
