Denys Gonzalez Hernandez, a 33-year-old from Lynn, MA, pleaded guilty to trafficking massive amounts of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, along with firearm charges. The guilty plea came after a search of his shared apartment in February 2025 uncovered 465 grams of fentanyl, 34 grams of cocaine base, and 21 grams of methamphetamine, as well as two loaded firearms. Hernandez was taken into custody and found with additional drugs on his person, including 16 baggies of cocaine and two baggies of fentanyl hidden in his sock.
The investigation and arrest were the result of a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), the Essex County District Attorney’s office, and the Lynn Police Department. Hernandez’s guilty plea marks a significant victory in the fight against opioid trafficking in the region.
Hernandez faces a minimum of 10 years to life in prison for the drug trafficking charges, as well as an additional five years for the firearm charge. His sentencing is scheduled for June 25, 2026. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Philip C. Cheng of the Organized Crime & Gang unit.
The seizing of over 465 grams of fentanyl is particularly notable, given the drug’s extreme potency and potential for overdose. Fentanyl has been a major contributor to the opioid epidemic in the United States, and law enforcement efforts to disrupt its supply chain are crucial to public health and safety.
