Anthony Coleman, a 36-year-old Lynn man, exploited two women for sex during the COVID-19 pandemic, targeting those who had lost their jobs or homes. Between March and August 2020, Coleman recruited, coerced, and profited from the women, forcing them to engage in commercial sex acts. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his crimes.
Coleman’s victims were forced to give him all their earnings, and he controlled their every move, including posting online ads, scripting negotiations, and transporting them to hotels for sex. One victim was even forced to see 10-16 clients per day, with Coleman taking all the profits. He also physically abused the women, holding one underwater and threatening to drown her.
Coleman pleaded guilty to two counts of benefitting financially from trafficking and two counts of coercing a person to travel for prostitution. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2024 and arrested in April 2024. In addition to his 12-year prison sentence, Coleman was ordered to pay $77,000 in restitution to his victims.
The case highlights the devastating impact of sex trafficking on vulnerable individuals, particularly during times of crisis like the pandemic. Coleman’s sentence serves as a warning to those who would exploit others for profit, and his victims can now begin to rebuild their lives.
