Wichita Man Gets 7 Years for Armed Bank Robbery
A brazen bank robbery in Wichita, Kansas, left investigators scrambling for clues. The plot thickened when a global positioning device was found in the stolen cash, leading police to track down the culprits. One of the accused has now been sentenced to seven years in federal prison.
Andre Bryant, 30, of Wichita, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting or brandishing a firearm in a crime of violence. He admitted to being part of the duo that robbed the Carson Bank at 4461 E. Douglas in Wichita on June 13, 2016.
Two individuals, disguised as they entered the bank, one of them brandishing a firearm, demanded and received money before fleeing. The stolen cash contained a global positioning device that helped police track down Bryant and his co-defendants, ultimately leading to their arrest.
The other two co-defendants, Raishat Magill and Elijah Shelton, are set for sentencing on Thursday.
U.S. Attorney Tom Beall commended the Wichita Police Department, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Smith for their hard work on the case.
The brazen heist, though unsuccessful in evading authorities, highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies in solving crimes.
Bryant’s seven-year sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in violent crime.
