Andre Charles Hall, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Pennsylvania 2016

A brazen crime spree in the Hill District of Pittsburgh came to an end when Andre Charles Hall, a 22-year-old convicted felon, was sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the investigation, Hall, who has a previous burglary conviction, was driving a stolen vehicle on Oct. 5, 2016, when he led Pittsburgh Police on a high-speed chase through the city. Hall crashed the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended by authorities after throwing down a coat containing a .40-caliber pistol.

United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer imposed the sentence, which also includes 3 years of supervised release. The gun was recovered from the coat Hall discarded during his attempt to flee.

Hall’s actions were deemed a serious offense, given his history as a convicted felon. A convicted felon is prohibited from possessing a firearm, and Hall’s actions put the public at risk.

Assistant United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

United States Attorney Scott W. Brady commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the City of Pittsburgh Police for their work in investigating and bringing Hall to justice.

The case is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by felons in possession of firearms and the importance of vigilant law enforcement.
