Heroin Trafficker Sentenced to 100 Months in Federal Prison
Columbia, South Carolina – In a blow to heroin traffickers in Horry County, Andrew Garcia, a 21-year-old man from Conway, has been sentenced to 100 months in federal prison.
Garcia was found guilty of three counts of distribution of heroin, in a case investigated by the Fifteenth Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), the Horry County Police Department (HCPD), and the DEA.
The evidence presented during the guilty plea hearing and sentencing hearing showed that agents made two controlled purchases of heroin from Garcia in August 2014 and a third controlled purchase of heroin in September 2014.
Agents also obtained warrants to search two Myrtle Beach residences linked to Garcia, where they recovered over 600 grams of heroin, nine firearms, and $68,000 in cash.
United States Attorney Beth Drake announced Garcia’s sentencing, which was imposed by United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell.
Garcia will serve his 100-month sentence followed by a three-year term of supervised release.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Christopher D. Taylor of the Florence office.
Garcia’s sentence is a result of a heroin trafficking investigation in Horry County, which involved extensive surveillance and controlled purchases of heroin from targets of the investigation.
