New Jersey Man Pleads Guilty to Interstate Transportation of a Stolen Vehicle

A 2012 Mack drilling rig, stolen in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, was transported across state lines by a New Jersey resident, according to a federal court guilty plea.

Angel Alfonso Arias-Miranda, 53, pleaded guilty in United States District Court to transporting a stolen motor vehicle in interstate commerce before Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan.

On October 11, 2020, Arias-Miranda knowingly transported the stolen vehicle from Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, to New Jersey. As part of his plea agreement, Arias-Miranda admitted to transporting the stolen vehicle.

The case was investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation. United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced the guilty plea.

Arias-Miranda is scheduled to be sentenced on October 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. before Judge Ranjan. He faces a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. The actual sentence imposed will be based on the seriousness of the offense and Arias-Miranda’s prior criminal history, if any.

The court ordered that Arias-Miranda remain on bond pending sentencing. Assistant United States Attorney Karen Gal-Or is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
