Anna Baker, 25, Sentenced to 4 Months for Methamphetamine Possession
Anna Baker, a 25-year-old woman from Winnebago, Nebraska, has been sentenced to 4 months in federal prison for her role in the Jamal Dean attempted escape attempt.
Baker pleaded guilty on February 25, 2015, to one count of simple possession of methamphetamine, a charge that stemmed from her hiding Jamal Dean at her residence on the Winnebago Indian Reservation from April 30, 2013, to May 1, 2013.
Baker’s involvement in the conspiracy was revealed during her change of plea hearing and sentencing. She admitted to relaying information to Dean from other conspirators, providing him with methamphetamine, and allowing him to use her phone.
Additionally, Baker lied to federal agents about when she had last seen Dean and who had stayed at her residence. She also deleted the contents of her phone, including text messages, sometime after harboring Dean and before meeting with law enforcement.
Baker was sentenced in Sioux City by United States Magistrate Judge Leonard Strand on June 26, 2015. She was also ordered to pay a special assessment of $25 and serve a one-year term of supervised release after her prison term.
Baker is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until she can be transported to a federal prison. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Homeland Security Investigations, and other local and federal agencies.
The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state, and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes. Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild handled the prosecution.
