An Omaha woman’s scheme to pose as a licensed psychologist and collect thousands of dollars in Medicaid and Social Security payments has landed her in prison.
Annette Crawley, also known as Kenya Sade Bryant, was sentenced to four years in prison and three years of supervised release by United States District Judge Lyle E. Strom in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The 37-year-old Crawley worked for several Omaha-based health services providers between 2011 and 2012, falsely claiming to be a licensed psychologist and conducting psychological examinations for Medicaid patients and individuals seeking Social Security benefits.
During her time at Beneficial Behavioral Services, Capstone Behavioral Services, and Behavioral Health Specialists, Crawley conducted a total of 258 examinations, for which she collected $43,517 in payments from Medicaid and the Social Security Administration.
Crawley used a variety of sophisticated means to evade detection, including creating a new identity and obtaining false documents to support her claims of being a licensed psychologist.
The investigation into Crawley’s actions was led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nebraska, with assistance from the Nebraska Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Social Security Administration’s Office of the Inspector General.
Crawley’s sentencing marks the end of a lengthy investigation into her health care fraud scheme, which resulted in significant financial losses for the Medicaid and Social Security programs.
