MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – A federal jury in Oklahoma has convicted Anthony Brian Walker, 40, of Ada, of Murder in Indian Country, a crime that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of life imprisonment.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, the jury delivered its verdict on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, following a trial that began on Monday, July 18, 2022.
The evidence presented during the trial revealed that on November 21, 2021, Walker intentionally killed Jason ‘Bubba’ Edward Hubbard, Jr. by stabbing him in the heart while Hubbard was sitting in a vehicle in the drive-thru of the Karry Out Korner in Ada, Oklahoma.
The federal authorities prosecuted the case because Walker is a member of a federally-recognized Indian tribe and the crime occurred in Pontotoc County, within the boundaries of the Chickasaw Nation and the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The guilty verdict was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department.
Walker was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending the sentencing hearing.
The Honorable Ronald A. White, U.S. District Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, sitting in Muskogee, Oklahoma, will preside over the sentencing hearing once a presentence report is completed.
