Anthony D. Klein, Income Tax Evasion, Texas 2023

In a shocking turn of events, a Smith County man has been found guilty of a federal income tax violation, leaving many wondering how he managed to evade the system for so long.

According to sources, Anthony D. Klein, 47, of Whitehouse, Texas, pleaded guilty to attempting to evade or defeat tax today before U.S. Magistrate Judge John D. Love in the Eastern District of Texas.

The crime, which took place in 2016, saw Klein filing an IRS Form 1040, U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, with the Internal Revenue Service. However, instead of reporting his actual income of $538,188.07, he claimed to have no taxable income and was entitled to credits in the amount of $5,836.00.

It has been revealed that Klein intended to evade and defeat the payment of income tax that was due and owing to the United States, resulting in a total tax loss of $404,292.00. This includes a tax loss of $194,780 for tax year 2016, $98,431.00 for tax year 2017, $74,191.00 for tax year 2018, and $36,890.00 for tax year 2019.

Klein faces up to five years in federal prison, although the maximum statutory sentence prescribed by Congress is provided for information purposes, as the sentencing will be determined by the court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.

A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office.

The case is being investigated by the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan R. Jackson.

The full extent of Klein’s involvement in the crime is still unclear, but one thing is certain – he will face the consequences of his actions.
