A Naples tax preparer has been busted for raking in over $65,000 in fake refunds from the IRS. Wilner Cenecharles pleaded guilty to six counts of helping clients file phony tax returns and two counts of submitting his own fake tax returns.
Cenecharles, who worked out of a barbershop in Naples, would meet with clients and cook up fake profits or losses from nowhere to grease the wheels for big refunds. He also lied about his own income and taxes, failing to report thousands of dollars in tax prep fees.
Cenecharles’s scheme was uncovered by the IRS – Criminal Investigation. Now he’s facing up to 18 years in federal prison and has agreed to cough up the $65,000 he stole from the feds.
The Department of Justice’s new National Fraud Enforcement Division is cracking down on tax cheats like Cenecharles.
