Convicted felon Antoine Johnson, 26, of Jackson, Mississippi, has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm after having previously been convicted of a felony. U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis announced the guilty plea today.
On August 9, 2015, the Jackson Police Department responded to a disturbance call. Officers located Johnson near the intersection of First Avenue and Broad Street and ordered him to the ground. A pistol was found in his right front pocket.
Johnson’s previous felony conviction was for business burglary in Madison County Circuit Court. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The case is a result of the Jackson Violent Crime Initiative, a joint effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies working to reduce violent crime in Jackson and remove violent offenders from the community.
The initiative includes the Jackson Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), U.S. Marshals Service, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and U.S. Secret Service.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of ATF and the Jackson Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Lemon prosecuted the case.
Johnson will be sentenced on February 2, 2016, by U.S. District Judge Carlton W. Reeves. The Jackson resident’s guilty plea and upcoming sentencing are a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat violent crime in the city and state.
