Antonio Shaw, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Pennsylvania 2017

A Philadelphia man has been convicted of a serious crime after a violent incident at the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia. Antonio Shaw, 31, was found guilty of one count of assault with a dangerous weapon.

On October 27, 2017, Shaw was an inmate at the Federal Detention Center. A previous incident involving a second inmate led to a third inmate attempting to grab Shaw and pull him into a cell to fight. However, Shaw broke free and ran away.

A short time later, Shaw lay in wait a short distance from the cell and rushed the third inmate from behind. He repeatedly stabbed and slashed the inmate with a sharp object, leaving the victim with 11 separate stab and slash wounds.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the guilty verdict, stating that Shaw has shown no respect for the law or the safety of others. If you assault another individual, whether on the street or in a prison, you can and will be held accountable for your crime.

Incarcerated prisoners cannot engage in violent behavior with impunity, said the FBI’s Special Agent in Charge. Maintaining a safe environment for federal inmates and Bureau of Prisons personnel is essential to the operation of FDC Philadelphia and the integrity of the justice system.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Miller.
