St. Louis, MO – A St. Louis County man has been indicted on a felony charge related to the attempted arson of a local supermarket.
Antonio Whiteside, a resident of St. Louis County, Missouri, was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 11, 2014, on one count of attempt to damage and destroy by means of fire and/or explosive materials.
The indictment stems from the attempted arson of the Ferguson Supermarket, Inc. on November 24, 2014.
Whiteside was taken into custody late Thursday evening.
U.S. Attorney Richard Callahan praised the collaboration between the St. Louis County Bomb and Arson Unit and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in their ongoing investigation into the Ferguson rioting.
If convicted, Whiteside faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000.
As is always the case, charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations and do not constitute proof of guilt. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty.
