CAPE GIRARDEAU – A notorious Arkansas man has been brought to justice for his role in a mail and wire fraud scheme that targeted unsuspecting investors.
According to court documents, 22-year-old Antron F. Ramey, a resident of Batesville, Arkansas, was sentenced to 15 months in prison by United States District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr. for his role in the scheme.
The charges against Ramey stem from his activities in 2018, during which he solicited investment funds from individuals, claiming he would invest their money in cryptocurrency investment accounts or foreign currency investments with investment firms.
Ramey held himself out to the individual investors as a financial investment advisor working on behalf of a legitimate investment firm known as Grand Capital, but in reality, he was not affiliated with any investment services firm and was merely taking the individuals’ money and converting it to his own benefit.
The Arkansas Securities Commission issued a Cease and Desist Order against Ramey and AFR Brokerage LLC on March 28, 2018, ordering Ramey and AFR to cease soliciting financial investments from individuals.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Keith Sorrell handling the prosecution for the government.
Ramey pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud and three counts of wire fraud in August of last year.
With his sentence now imposed, Ramey will serve 15 months in prison for his crimes. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of due diligence when it comes to investing and the severe consequences of engaging in fraudulent activities.
